Our updates are an excellent way to offer you more nuggets and insights about innate health and wellbeing.  I’ve gone back into the vault to dust off and update and expanded old programs and made them more exciting and accessible.   Before I get so worked up telling you about what else is coming, I want to tell you how I created Return To Well.

Some of you who know me, know my father was diagnosed with stage four-bladder cancer in 2009.  I had been in Thailand working on integrative health programs when I returned to the United States to take on the role of primary caretaker and health advocate for my father.  I should mention that he was in his 80’s and had lived a long fun joyous life.  My father laughed and was cheerful every day.  My father passed on peacefully and I will treasure the time I devoted to him.

What happened to me physically completely took me off guard.  Anyone who has taken care of a hospice patient or a seriously ill person knows it’s a full time endeavor and it’s emotionally and physically draining.  What you may not know is what happens chemically under this and any kind of stress.  We are seeing more individuals with exhausted adrenals than ever before. This may be happening to you too.  Stress comes from many different events and each of us reacts to stress in different ways.  For example, one person has a serious reaction to traffic while another person tunes out it out.

We need the stress hormone (cortisol) to survive, in fact we wouldn’t be here today if our ancestors didn’t have the capable reactions to predators or fluctuations in environment that cortisol creates.  Where cortisol becomes a problem is when the body is in a state of stress over a long period of time.  Short bursts of cortisol as a stress response are normal and healthy.  The multiple chemical effects of cortisol during normal stress responses are required for us to think fast, and move quickly.  When the cortisol chemical cascade continues over long periods of time the system begins to weaken and a number of negative events will ensue.

That is exactly what happened to me.  My health plummeted. I gained weight because my blood sugar levels became imbalanced, I stopped working out and my metabolism tanked, I developed a number of infections and the inflammation further taxed my system.  I was tired, I couldn’t concentrate, I was not sleeping, I craved junk food and I didn’t feel good.  I turned to what I knew; I turned to preventative medicine to begin the journey back to health, to return to well.

What has become even more pressing today, is the need and desire in the corporate world for holistic health programs for staff. Executives and corporate leaders who have implemented wellness programs because they understand the value and importance of their health (and the health of their staff) to the success of their business have enjoyed a competitive edge over their competition. Advantages in the marketplace are even more critical in tough economic times. I have seen companies close their doors due to the health crisis of a partner or key executive. The urgency in the corporate arena prompted us to focus on corporate wellness programs and retreats. If you think your company could benefit from a wellness program, we would love to talk to you about how we can improve your bottom line by improving and caring for your most important business asset.

We live in stressful times and the pill and a prayer model is yielding far too much illness. Now more then ever people are seeking resources to guide them back to wellness too.  If this is you or your company, join me as I share exactly what you must do to turn on your innate health and live the life you deserve, fully alert, energized, productive, engaged and well.  Let me show you the way.
