About Lani Anderson
Holistic health practitioner and speaker
Lani Anderson is a seasoned holistic health practitioner and a dynamic keynote speaker, whose passion for helping people achieve their highest level of well being is palpable. A California State Licensed Acupuncturist, she merges Western diagnostics and concepts of functional wellness, Eastern healing modalities and the use of her intuition in her work. She works with clients individually in her clinic and she holds retreats and intensive programs for entrepreneurs and corporations, all with the goal of creating optimal well-being, particularly in the areas of stress reduction and weight loss. One of her greatest passions is helping women achieve their wellness goals and she’s dedicated much of her practice to helping them develop strong, fit bodies and birthing healthy babies.
Although Lani had visions of herself working in the wellness field since she was a child, her path to living the life of her dreams was a circuitous one. A California native, Lani was attracted to the whole body approach to natural medicine, having been raised with some influence from Christian Science from her father and grandmother. She was also very ambitious. She recalls being asked what she wanted to do when she grew up and she envisioned herself sitting at a glass-topped desk, leading her companies. By high school, her vision became clearer and she knew that some day she would open a wellness center. When she visited a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, she knew it was something she would learn. However, that dream of working in the wellness field would have to wait.
At the young age of 17, Lani began paying her way through college, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of West Los Angeles School of Paralegal Studies. She worked jobs that included being a clerk and letter carrier for USPS, clerk in California Municipal Court, paralegal at US and Japanese law firms, and co-owner of Pekyam Coffee and Tea, a Tokyo-based imported coffee shop. She has lived abroad in countries such as the United Kingdom, Japan and Thailand, where she experienced the amazing healing power of natural medicine, which further sparked her interest in the field of holistic medicine. While living in Japan, Lani began to learn about the energy systems in the body, and the spark was ignited. This led her to go back to school and earn her master’s degree in Oriental Medicine from Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, California, and then to receive advanced clinical intensive training in Beijing, China.
After more than a decade spent practicing holistic healing, Lani continues to seek out the best in functional medicine training and innovation, but she allowed life circumstances to temporarily take her off of her own healthy path. “Though I have been a holistic practitioner for over 10 years, it wasn’t until my own health faltered when my father became ill that I really saw the impact of the lack of optimal health: my cortisol levels had increased, I experienced severe pain in my sacral area due to fibroid cysts that kept me from working out, my weight increased, I lacked motivation to get anything beyond the minimum done, I was tired all the time and I craved junk food,” Lani says. “When my favorite checker at the market asked how I was I couldn’t say my usual ‘I’m well’ I realized I had to return to well and turn my attention to improving my own imbalance. The idea to create wellness retreats was born.”
In addition to her wellness retreats and clinical work, Lani uses knowledge from her previous careers as a paralegal and owner of a lucrative coffee business abroad to consult and educate fellow holistic health care professionals and acupuncturists on business basics. She has developed a series of CEU accredited programs to support holistic healers in business building.
Lani currently lives in Culver City, CA and spends much of her free time outlining novels that she is planning on writing. She also enjoys traveling, gardening and entertaining guests. She is a single mother to a 17-year-old son, Alex, whom she adores. She is also an animal lover and hopes have dogs and horses in the near future.
Lani believes, “it is possible to attain supreme well being and still enjoy life, in fact, to live better and do more.”
